Jacobus Cornelis Wyand (Jan) Cossaar was born in Amsterdam on August 18th 1874. He was a pupil at the Tekenschool voor Kunstambachten (Draughtsmanship School for Applied Art) and the Rijksacademie (State Academy) in Amsterdam. Cossaar lived and worked in Amsterdam, Paris, London, The Hague and Rotterdam. He produced paintings, watercolours and drawings of city views and church interiors. Cossaar was a member of The Hague art circle Pulchri Studio and of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. He died in The Hague on November 25th 1966.
