J. G. Smits (1823-1910)

Jan Gerard Smits was born in 1823 in the Hague. He was a pupil of the well-known painter S.L. Verveer. He painted, also in water-colors, etched and lithographed town- and villageviews. He also thought drawing- and painting to queen Sophie. He died in 1910 in his native town. (source: Lexicon Pieter A. Scheen).
