Henk van Leeuwen (1890-1972)

Hendrik (Henk) van Leeuwen was born in Ter Aar on 22 January 1890. He lived and worked in Oudewater until 1915, in The Hague until 1938 and thereafter in Voorburg. Van Leeuwen attended the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (Academy for the Visual Arts) in The Hague and took courses in Paris. He was influenced by The Hague School and the School of Barbizon. He went on study trips to Corsica, Italy, Spain and Austria. Van Leeuwen produced drawings, paintings, watercolours and etchings mainly of townscapes and landscapes, which he signed as H. van Leeuwen v.O. He died in Voorburg on 23 August 1972.
