P.G. Vertin (1819-1893)

Petrus Gerardus Vertin was born in The Hague on 21 March 1819. He received his training at The Hague's Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten (Academy for the Visual Arts) under B. J. van Hove. Renowned for his townscapes, generally filled with light, he is also a watercolourist and lithographer. Although a 19th century artist, he followed the tradition of artists from the 17th century. His works are exhibited in museums in Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Nijmegen and Brussels. He died in The Hague on 14 September 1893.
