This town in Northern Brabant was first mentioned in documents in 1125. One of its most notable buildings is the Great, or Our Lady Church, a beautiful example of Brabant Gothic architecture that contains the mausoleum for the Dukes of Nassau. William of Orange should have also been buried here, but when he was murdered in 1584, Breda was in Spanish hands and he was laid to rest in Delft.
